General

What is Pitrupaksha?

Pitrupaksha, also called Mahalaya Paksha, is a period in the Hindu lunar calendar associated with remembering ancestors. It falls during Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada, typically between September and October. The website’s 2026 guide lists 26 September to 10 October; confirm locally because lunar dates can vary by calendar and location.

Who should perform these rites?

That can depend on the rite, family tradition and local practice. Tell us who is available in the family and any guidance you have already received; we can help you ask a qualified pandit what applies.

Do I have to be present in India?

Not always. Tell us where you are and how you hope to take part. Live calls, photographs or recordings depend on the rite, place and date, so ask what is possible before making plans.

Enquiry & planning

How far in advance should I enquire?

For the Pitrupaksha fortnight, contact us as early as you can so we have time to check the date, place and an appropriate pandit. You can also ask about rites at other times of year.

Can I change a proposed date?

You can update your preferences while the request is still an enquiry. If you later agree to an arrangement directly, its written rescheduling and cancellation terms will apply; ask the coordinator to explain them before you decide.

Can I request a preferred language?

Yes. Add the language your family understands best. We will check whether an appropriate pandit is available in that language for the place and date.

After an arrangement

What follow-up may be available?
